Five Things That Made Me Happy This Week #8

Well it’s a brand new month and I can’t believe that I’ve been up and running with From The Fringe for two whole months now! It has absolutely flown by. Even though the days have been sunny, it’s nice to feel that we’re slowly creeping towards the joys of Autumn and I even wore a scarf for the first time this week, huzzah! I hope that October is treating you well so far, here’s my first happiness post of the month! (PS: Don’t forget tell me what made you happy this week!)

1. A reunion:

I hope you’re starting to learn by now that social gatherings are my thing. I love them. Especially if I’m hosting. Well, this weekend saw Greg and I hosting a social gathering – the dream scenario! There are four of us who all used to live together at university and we’ve managed to stay firm friends almost a decade later (yes, a fucking decade, we did the maths this weekend and OHMYGOSH was that a realisation). We’ve added two others in the form of partners over recent years so we now make a handsome six. They descended on us on this weekend and the guys had a night out (wherein they went out and didn’t arrive home until almost 5am – mid-life crisis much?!) and the ladies ate pizza and chocolate in front of Saturday night television. Despite the hefty hangovers, a joyous time was had by all and everything was made right with a big Sunday lunch before going our separate ways.

2. Lemon meringue cupcakes:

I arrived home on Monday to find Greg in the kitchen amidst a mass of baking paraphernalia. Not content with the fact that he’d already completed a million chores that we’d been putting off until that point, he’d also decided to bake some lemon meringue cupcakes in preparation for an evening with his sister and her fiance. I mean, there’s hardly a better smell to come home to than freshly baked cake, is there?! And they were DELICIOUS.

3. Less stress, more productivity:

Thank goodness that this week has been so much less stressful than the few which have gone before. Something had to give otherwise I might have just retreated into a blanket fort, never to be seen again save for popping out for a chocolate hobnob every now and then. But (sadly) the fort wasn’t necessary as everything slowed down to a more manageable pace. On top of that, I’ve been SUPER productive which has got me feeling like a total boss to be honest.

4. Autumn evenings:

Honestly, any excuse to curl up on the sofa with my laptop, the tele, or a book, and I’m there. The wonderful thing about Autumn is that it’s the start of a season where the aforementioned is basically what you’re expected to do. Hurrah! Although I’m totally not in favour of the darker mornings (like it needs to be any more difficult to wake up), I love that the nights are starting to draw in a little and that candles and blankets are becoming more and more the norm. Plus, I’m managing to watch plenty of Sopranos with all this staying in which is a total bonus.

5. Some moral support:

The thing about blogging is that sometimes it just feels as though you’re shouting into the void. Apart from some bland numbers on a page, you can’t really gauge who’s reading, who’s enjoying what, whether you’re doing the right thing, whether it’s going well. And then you get an email and a text on the same day from two sweet, lovely friends, showing the most tremendous support for what you’re doing. I’m so lucky to have people in my life who, although not the closest of friends, took time out of their day to send me a little something to tell me they’re enjoying the blog. It gives me so much motivation to carry on working hard to make this space absolutely awesome. I’m really trying to make this my life’s work and to hear such wonderful comments from these two dear friends is invaluable!

  • This is so lovely! I love reading happy posts like yours. Those lemon meringue cupcakes sound amazing! I can relate to blogging being just numbers on a screen sometimes, it’s so hard to know what you’re doing right. It’s so nice of your friends to show some support : )
