Friday has sprung out of nowhere like the most beautiful little ninja this week. After a glorious bank holiday weekend, I know that I could definitely readjust to a four day weekend with absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Especially if each weekend was full of hot cross buns and chocolate. I hope this week has been lovely for you all, here are my happy highlights from the last seven days.
1. Bank holiday weekend:
Four delicious days just waiting to be devoured…what more could you possibly want? I had major plans for my bank holiday which involved getting my shit together, doing all of the jobs I have been putting off for ages, and still having plenty of time to see family and relax. Instead, I focused predominantly on the latter and achieved practically nothing over the entire four days. Admittedly, I had some small pangs of guilt but they were pretty easily forgotten as I luxuriated in my king size bed until midday on two occasions. On Sunday we had a family gathering and ate plenty of food (the pizza oven made another appearance) and received an obscene amount of chocolate. The whole affair was blissfully relaxed and wonderful.
2. An opportunity:
Saturday saw me perched on a deckchair in the garden (attempting to collect even the smallest rays of sunshine as they broke through the persistent Manchester-grey clouds) typing furiously into my computer. The reason for this is because I put myself forward to write a piece for the Independent and they accepted! As somebody who is used to my own little blog bubble, it was a really new experience for me to write in a journalistic way and I felt oddly vulnerable at the thought of so many people being able to access something I’d written. Also, internet trolls, y’all. The struggle is real. But, for all of the strangeness and uncomfortable-ness (not a word), it was kinda nice to see my name there under the Independent banner and it definitely brought a smile to my face!
Spring has the BEST flowers. All of the most beautiful floral creations happen in that first sprinkling of sunshine mixed with just the right amount of rain. And the smell of them! It’s just gorgeous. So, in a bid to steal some of that spring magic for my very own, I grabbed a bunch of multi-coloured tulips which have grown like the enthusiastic little do-gooders that they are. They’re just lovely and I smile each time I see them.
4. Being nicer to myself:
After making the decision to be a bit kinder to myself this week, I am finally starting to feel more relaxed and generally more brilliant about life. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had a few wobbles, but I’m trying to keep myself in check. Unsurprisingly, life is so much easier when you’re not telling yourself how shit you are.
5. Leaf with a friend:
I caught up with a friend on Thursday evening and, after filling ourselves up with tasty Thai food, we went to Leaf for a drink. A new store has just opened up in Manchester city centre and, having visited the Liverpool one years ago, I was excited to re-visit. It was so pleasant to chat about life over a truly glorious cup of tea. Ceylon tea at that. Which you very rarely get a choice of in a cafe so I was practically overjoyed.
