Five Things That Made Me Happy This Week #27

Well, I do hope you’re all having a Good Friday (har-har)! It’s so lovely to have four glorious days stretched out ahead of me where I can have a break from being the new person who doesn’t know anything at work. I mean, would it have been too much to ask for a bit of sunshine? I don’t think so. But moaning about the weather isn’t exactly in-keeping with the spirit of this post is it.

Anyway, since I missed last week, here are five of the things that made me happy over the last TWO weeks. Bonus edition! Don’t forget to share your highlights in the link-up below.

1. A trip to sunny Oxford:

I’ve never been to Oxford before but, in my mind, it’s always basking beautifully under sunshine and a blue sky. Luckily, when I hurtled three hours south of Manchester last week, I wasn’t disappointed. The reason for the visit was the work equivalent of a school trip and, by that, I mean that we all treated it exactly like a school trip. We stayed at Oxford University and shared halls like a huge sleepover. It was so much fun! The work side of the event was really inspiring and interesting and the chance to socialise with everybody was hilarious. We danced and chatted and were all exhausted when we had to get up again for work approximately four hours later. I felt so lucky to have my new job and such a great group of new friends, it was joyous!

2. Finishing the garden:

So we’ve been gardening for what feels like MONTHS and that’s because what started as a minor jazz-up of the garden, became a full scale Ground Force style operation. Greg and his Dad have done the entire thing themselves (with some very minimal input from me) and it looks great! We’ve gone from having a yard with nowhere to sit, to a garden with bedding plants and grass! Artificial grass, yes. But still, GRASS! We also bought ourselves a double deckchair which is awesome and we made a super cute pallet garden which Greg found on Pinterest. It’s so fortunate that we’ve got such a brilliantly sunny bank holiday weekend to enjoy it… oh wait…. *eye roll*

3. Friends and sunshine:

Okay, enough of moaning about the weather. Promise. Last weekend was absolutely GLORIOUS and we properly got to try out our newly finished garden with some friends who had come over. They came over on Saturday and we went for a huge Turkish feast which also featured belly dancing (by a professional, not us, I should add). Then we basically spent the entirety of Sunday outside collecting freckles. It was so delightful. We also cracked out the pizza oven for the first time and had a pizza barbecue which was awesome. I may have ended up with bright red knees, but I didn’t mind.

4. Lovely work colleagues:

After six weeks, I’m starting to feel a lot more comfortable at work which is great. I mean, I’m still having an existential crisis every day about why somebody would employ me which doesn’t seem to be getting any easier, but things are great as far as colleagues go. I’ve never worked in a place where nearly everybody has the same outlook on life and it’s lovely to be around every day. I’ve made close friends with a few of my colleagues and they just make me smile every day. They’re keeping me going through the madness of my self-doubt.

5. Fringe chat:

I restarted #fringechat last week and it was lovely to get some great discussions about feminism on the go. I always worry that absolutely nobody will turn up (which is still a possibility going forward) but, thankfully, there were enough people there to make it fun. I love a twitter chat so it’s always a joy to host one. If you’re interested in joining in, there will be a #fringechat this Tuesday 18th April and we’ll be chatting about the pressure to be busy. It’d be great to see you there!

  • I know how you feel about the weather! It’s amazing how much it can enhance your mood. I feel like a different person when it’s sunny and warm out.

    • Me too! I feel like I can conquer the world. It’s madness! How’s the weather where you are?

      • Slowly getting better! Spring is always a bit up and down around here–beautiful one day, frigid the next. Usually gets itself sorted out sometime in May, at which point it’s almost summer. 🙂

        • Ahhh that’s so nice! I wish we had more of a defined summer like that!

I look forward to reading this series of post. I challenged myself but never get up to making one. I am thinking of an end of the month post instead. Happy Easter!
